The Library of Birmingham, by Elliott Brown

The Library of Birmingham was opened in 2013 and was designed to ‘rewrite the book’ on libraries. As well as traditional reading rooms, the library offers a health and wellbeing facility where people can people can borrow books that have been prescribed by their doctor, a contemplation room, a digital gallery for exhibitions, music rooms, a vegetable patch and much more. Even though the Library of Birmingham has become one of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK, it has not been immune to cuts to local government funding, and has seen its opening hours reduced from over 70 a week to 40.
